Dear families,
Yesterday we went to the farm. We saw lots of animals. We saw a pig, sheep, goats, a horse, and a cow. There was even a peacock. We also learned about foods that grow on the farm. The farm was growing corn, strawberries, peaches, pumpkins, lettuce, and carrots. We even got to go on some rides. There was a train, a roller coaster, a slide, and some other ones. Thank you to the parents that went with us to help. Also, thank you to our families for letting us go. You are the best!!

Hello,
Last week was a very busy week. We learned so much. We talked about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We learned about the beginning, middle, and end of a story. We also talked about characters and setting. In math, we began measuring and comparing different objects. We are learning the new words longer, shorter, more, and fewer. Help me practice using them at home. This week we will starting a new reading routine called Daily 5. We will be practicing Reading to Self, Reading to Someone, Work on Writing, Word Work, and Work on Computer. This will help us to work at our own pace and also be responsible for our own learning. We enjoy reading our books while also getting the independece to choose how we want to practice our learning. We are becoming such big kids. In writing, we will be practicing how to write a friendly letter. Maybe we can write one together at home?

Dear Families,
We have been very hard at work. Last week we talked about our bodies. We learned that our brain as three parts: the cerebellum, cerebrum, and the brain stem. The cerebrum helps us do all of our learning, and our cerebellum helps us to balance. We also learned about our muscles and bones. Did you know that our muscles are so strong that if our brain didn't tell them to stop, they could break our bones? Lastly, we learned about our digestive and respiratory systems. It was so much fun. We also learned 4 more letters: F, N, B, and O.
This week we are learning about the artist Henri Matisse. He was a French artist that sculpted and painted. However, as he got older his senses were not as good, and it was hard for his bones to hold the paint brush. He was also unable to sculp anymore. So, he used a different part of his body to create: his hands and eyes. He began cutting shapes out of paper with scissors and arranging them on paper before gluing them down. He used so many bright colors. Yesterday, we got to make our own Henri Matisse art pieces.
Love,

This week we learned so much. We talked about our feelings and how it is okay to feel happy, mad, confused, proud, hurt, lonely, excited, and even sad. We wrote about different times in our lives when we have felt each of these. We also learned how to use an "I" message with others. Our words are one of the most powerful tools we have, so we need to use them. We learned how to tell someone when they are bothering us, or when they do something that we appreciate. The sentence clause for an I message is "I feel__________, because you ________________, please _______________." If you hear me using an "I" message at home please, congratulate me. This week we finished reading our 5th book. Woohoo!! We are becoming great readers. The more we practice the better we get, so please ask me to read to you at home =) In math we talked about the different attributes that objects have, like shape, color, size, and thickness. We also learned about making an equal set. Ask me to show you.

Dear Families,
This week was so much fun. We got to explore with Math Manipulatives, read 3 books, make new friends, sing new songs, and how to mix colors. Did you know that blue and red make purple, yellow and blue make green, and yellow and red make orange? The only down side was not being able to go to recess because of the heat advisory. We can't wait to see what we learn next week!!!

Dear Families,
This week was great! Although, we missed our families, it was fun getting to know so many new friends. There are a lot of neat things that we get to do. Recess, PE, and Music class are our favorites so far. We read a new book called "In Kindergarten." We are practicing how to read it all by ourselves and will bring it home on Monday to read at home. We also like when Ms. Allen lets us dance and teaches us new songs. Kindergarten is full of so many fun things, we can't wait to do more next week =)

Wow! I can't believe the summer is coming to a close and the new year is fast approaching. I hope that everyone had a fun and relaxing summer vacation. I took an awesome road trip with my son Caleb to Idaho. We got to go rafting down the Boise river! What a neat experience. I am now excited and ready to start the new year! Looking back, I realize that I was not very good at keeping our blog updated. This is my new school year resolution. This year, our class blog will be our main source of communication. It will be a great way for you to stay updated on news and events going on in the classroom. It will also be a great way to "see" what your students are doing throughout the day. I will be updating our blog every Friday afternoon, and more so if needed. Welcome back!!!

Dear Families,
This week we finished learning about Australia. Two continents down, and 5 more to go! This year is going so fast. We made, Adder Snakes using construction paper links. We also made Koala bears using a special method called dot painting. We even baked Anzac biscuits. They were very yummy. Kindergarten is so much fun! Next week we will be taking a break from our trip around the world to learn about Arizona, presidents, and to celebrate our friends for Valentine's Day. We can't wait to keep learning.
